Kreyling Korner – Week #13 – 07/13/17

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

We start this week’s MOW with a question – I picked Marge to win last week and he tied…what does that mean for the MOW? I’m giving myself a big L on that one. I picked him to win, not to tie. Another bad pick – thanks Schott. Troy did pull off a W so my overall record goes to 6-8.

A/B Group –Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg vs. Adam “Marge” Schott – I know I put Marge in the MOW last week, but I must use this match so I can work Pete into the blog. As you all saw this week, the survey question asked if the GCCGL likes the new tee time format (i.e. being grouped with another member of your team). Cupcake didn’t mention any names in his survey question but I will, Goldie was the one who didn’t like the new format. Well the league has spoken – out of all the responses, only 1 person has voted against the new format. I bet we can all guess who made that vote. As for golf – the forecast is a bit iffy tonight, so this will mess with Pete’s head. Plus, he will hate the group he is playing with. Marge, don’t let me down two weeks in a row! GLOSSY PREDICTION: Schott wins 5.5-4.5.

C/D Group – Oliver “Ollie” Livermore vs. Joel “Needs a Nickname” Miller – Joel makes his MOW debut in week #13. I’d like to wax on poetically about Joel, but I haven’t heard Joel say more than 2 words this entire year (or last year for that matter). What I can say – the kid’s a pretty good golfer. In 2017, he is 7-1 and is 6th on the points list with 49. Ollie is having an average season at 3-4 with 34.5 points in total. These two have played before, last year on the Pioneer front, with Ollie claiming victory at 7-3. Ollie is getting 4 strokes tonight so I do think that does even the match somewhat. In the end, I think Joel wins. GLOSSY PREDICTION – Miller wins 6-4.

THE KREYLING KORNER

Time for a trend watch!

TRENDING UP

Bacon – Up until this week, I never paid bacon much thought. It’s a delicious breakfast food that goes with anything. When I’m out for breakfast and I’m asked, “would you like bacon or sausage” I generally go with bacon. Only in the GCCGL would pork be used as payment for a trade. To reiterate what George’s blog from last week so wonderfully captured, Nick Duer was traded for Mike Morrell and 8 pounds of bacon. The first thing that makes this hilarious is that Pete came up with the idea. You all can read between the lines of why this is so funny, I’m not typing it here. The other thing that makes me laugh is the quantity – 8 pounds. Why 8 pounds? Why not 16 pounds? Anyway, this fascinated me for some reason so I researched the average price of a pound of bacon. According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, the average price per pound of bacon in May 2017 was $4.99. That means this trade will cost around $40 (after tax). Keep in mind if this trade would have happened last year, it would have cost around $38 (after tax). The rising price of pork is killing STC! BACON is trending up!

Nick “Potter” Duer – What can we say about Duer this year? Dude is a perfect 8-0 on the season and is second on the points list with 55.5. NOW – he just gets traded to Straight to Church. While most people agree the race for the championship is well out of reach, adding Potter and his magical 2017 campaign may give STC what it needs to make a late season push. If nothing else, it could really help secure a top 3 finish. DUER is trending up!

TRENDING DOWN

Mike “Meat” Morrel – Poor meat! Mike is having a great sophomore season with an overall record of 6-2 and total points of 45 (8th on the list). Meat also stands at number 5 on the money leaderboard with $33 dollars. There is no arguing he is playing great, and is a huge part of the reason STC is in second place. And what happens? Poor dude leaves after the round on Thursday and wakes up to being traded…for a player having a career year and swine! I get it, everyone is playing for second place right now, but second place still wins $30. Instead, he now finds himself playing on the JETS. A team with a terrible name that happens to be Duer’s favorite NFL team. If that isn’t bad enough – the Jets are sliding down the rankings faster than a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck. I sure hope Meat gets some bacon out of this deal. Morrel is trending down!

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
